29 October 2008 | EMPIRE EXCLUSIVES
Empire has two exclusive photos of the upcoming new Star Trek film.
“[T]he first image shows off the majesty of Spock standing in front of the iconic Enterprise viewscreen,” which appears rather huge compared to the original. “The second image, featuring Kirk in an armoured EVA suit, makes the good captain look less like a Starfleet officer and more like an extra from Unreal Tournament [...]” Click here to read the story and see both pictures.
28 October 2008 | ENTERPRISE INTERIORS
Our collection of Star Trek: The Motion Picture interior design concept art has also been split up in separate pages for six different areas of the ship.
Several of the Refit Enterprise interiors were designed by Andrew Probert, including the Officers’ Lounge and Cargo and Landing Bay which this early Mike Minor concept art depicts. Probert also contributed to the design of the Recreation Deck and the exteriors of both the Bridge and the Photon Torpedo Bay.
27 October 2008 | PLANET OF THE TITANS
Before there was Star Trek: The Motion Picture, there was Star Trek: Phase II. And before there was Phase II, there was “Planet of the Titans”.
The film was to be produced in England with Ken Adam of James Bond fame as production designer. Ralph McQuarrie, who had just before worked on Star Wars, was hired to provide conceptual drawings, many of which were speculative images, such as this depictions of the Enterprise approaching an inhabited astroid.

26 October 2008 | USS KELVIN
Trekmovie reported about the USS Kelvin back in May this year already; the ship aboard which George Samuel Kirk, brother of James, and played by Chris Hemsworth, serves as first officer.
Now, two effect shots of the Kelvin have been released, depicting the ship under heavy attack. A close-up available at Trekmovie reveals what appear to be either phaser turrets or torpedo launchers extending from the ship’s saucer—a feature not seen before on starships of this era.

Plus there is a page about the mysterious Cetacean Ops, which this Andrew Probert concept for Star Trek Online depicts.
24 October 2008 | ZACHARY QUINTO IS SPOCK
Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock in the new film, looks “quintessentially Spocky with his black bowl cut [and] slanting eyebrows,” according to Entertainment Weekly.
Quinto shaved his eyebrows and grew and dyed his hair, to find that the makeover helped him connect with Spock’s angst. “I never anticipated how alienated I would feel because of the physical alteration,” says the actor. “That’s appropriate, because Spock is really alienated from himself when we meet him.” Click here to read the entire article.
23 October 2008 | CHRIS PINE IS KIRK
In this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly, J.J. Abrams talks about “launching Spock & Kirk back into space.”
“Kirk spends much of Star Trek dressed in respectable black,” writes the magazine, “space-cadet colors in Abrams’ Trekverse—as he undertakes a perilous, destiny-seeking journey.” About the actor to play the young James Kirk, Simon Pegg, who plays Scotty in the film, notes, “Chris [Pine] has that steely arrogance and wry humor you want in Kirk.” Click here to read the entire article.
22 October 2008 | DEEP SPACE NINE
You might not recognize this shape, but it was in fact one of the earliest design for the Deep Space Nine space station!
Before the design team—that included Michael Okuda and Rick Sternbach, and that worked under the supervision of Production Designer Herman Zimmerman—found the now-familiar ring concept, many different approaches were tried to create a truly unique and alien look. You can see and read about many of these in our article, “Designing Deep Space Nine”
22 October 2008 | THE NEW UNIFORMS
In the photograph of the Enterprise bridge featured yesterday, we already saw the new Starfleet uniforms. Let’s have a closer look at them today.
In this picture, recently featured by UGO, we recognize the familiar colors worn over the black overshirt—similar to the uniform configuration of The Original Series. Their appearance, however, has been slightly updated with some futuristic polymers. Note also the insignia, now silver instead of gold, but a fine homage to the original still!
21 October 2008 | NEW FRED PHILLIPS PHOTO
Fred Phillips was the chief make-up artist for The Original Series. He designed nearly everything alien that appeared on the show, including Spock’s famous pointed ears, for the original pilot episode, “The Cage”. Fourteen years later, during the production of The Motion Picture, Phillips cast his 2000th Spock ear.
This new photograph, added to our article about “Fred Philips,” shows the artist completing Leonard Nimoy’s make-up on the set of the original Star Trek.
21 October 2008 | THE NEW BRIDGE
MTV had an exclusive a few days ago; a photo of the Enterprise bridge as it will appear in the upcoming film!
According to Damon Lindelof, co-producer on Star Trek XI, director J.J. Abrams insisted that every piece of equipment on the bridge serve a legitimate purpose. The maps, for example, spotted in the background, were based on the generally accepted layout of the Star Trek universe. Click here to view a larger version of this images, as well as more photos that were recently released.

20 October 2008 | NEW STRUCTURE
Changes are afoot here at Forgotten Trek! The visitor will notice a new structure in which news is presented—news, in the future, not only about the website, but about Star Trek in general also, obviously with a focus on the production side of things. New also is our header graphic, as well as an advertisement for our forums, the SMOKING LOUNGE; a message board community not about Star Trek, yet one that hopefully interests the visitor nonetheless.
Stay tuned for more updates!
