Qo地oS (transliterated to Kronos in English) is the homeworld of the Klingon people and capital of the Klingon Empire. The planet was first seen in the The Next Generation episode, “Sins of the Father,” which aired on 19 March 1990. According to the script for the episode, the surface of Qo地oS comprises a single supercontinent and a vast ocean. In addition, the planet has a severely tilted axis which causes wild seasonal changes, a turbulent atmosphere, and extremes of both warm and frigid weather.
The matte paintings which were produced for “Sins of the Father” to depict Qo地oS show the capital city from above, with several high-rise buildings towering over its elevated streets and lower levels. These matte paintings were reused in Parts I and II of the episode, “Redemption.”
The artworks on display here are renders of the 3D models used in cutscenes in the 2000 Interplay Entertainment video game Star Trek: Klingon Academy. The first image is reminiscent of the “Great Hall” as it appeared on screen though the architecture overall is more medieval than the buildings seen on The Next Generation.
