There are few artists who can boast a legacy in retro-futurism as Syd Mead. From Blade Runner to Alien to Tron, Mead contributed to some of the most groundbreaking of science fiction films of the twentieth century and produced an impressive collection of artwork on the side.
This painting, which might well depict the future of dating in a way, contains many of Mead’s characteristics: vivid colors, robotics and half-nudity in a world that might be our own or some alien realm far removed from our own solar system, where people socialize and enjoy every-day activities, as though the future is a thing to be taken for granted.
Be sure to visit Mr Mead’s website to learn more about the man and his work, or visit this or this set on flickr which both contain several of his finest paintings.
