This may be of interest to the game-players among us: a Victorian Era MMO:
From The Hardcore Gamer -- New San Francisco area developer MindFuse has revealed their initial offering, a victorian themed MMO by the name of The World of Gatheryn.
The official website states that Gatheryn is in development for “multiple platforms”, but does not share what those platforms might be. They describe the game as “a massive multi-player world of adventure, mystery and romance”. Well, that last bit sounds somewhat ominous when taken in the context of this being a “victorian” themed game. I’m guessing no scantily clad yum-yums in this one.

The artwork on the site looks promising. However, I wish they would give us more of an idea as to what the main storyline is.

Looks promising...Steampunk videogames are not very widespread.

I wonder if they'll have real world parallels instead of just a British-eque type world. IE, a Cold and Snowy country ruled by a Tsar for a Russian parallel, an Clockpunk country for Italian, a weird west or backwoodsman country for American, etc.

From what I gather, there won't be much of a set storyline. Instead, the player will be free to explore and do whatever he wants.

Well I suppose that's all well and good, but objectives keep one interested in the game. Otherwise it's just a blantant copy of Second Life, in which your only gameplay goal is to accumulate pretty clothing and properties, then show them off. Plenty of MMORPGs have storylines to follow in addition to the wandering around and doing whatever you please.

Ottens means there won't be a neccesary storyline that must be done in order to get to more parts of the game. Probably there will be a few interlocking stories.

Exactly. I suppose this'll be more or less like Morrowind, which had a main plot you could follow, along with numerous side plots, but you could also simply chose to roam its world and so whatever you liked. Morrowind actually had a few steampunkesque elements to it. Mostly fantasy though, but a fascinating game altogether.

Yes, it did. I always liked it a lot. Hopefully this new game will be good fun and avoid the tedious "grinding" that curses MMORPGs.
